@killzone2621 Lol. I like how the comment is directed at me, but you say "Can someone tell me why HE says…" 笑 I said "Yahari," with an H. As you know, in Japanese depending on the letters surrounding them, H sounds can turn into B or P sounds, like, for example, when you count beveragaes. The counter is "hai" but you count 1: ippai, 2, ni-hai, 3, san-bai. Right? In the same way, some words with an internal H can be changed as well.
While the original word for Japan is "Nihon," I'm sure you hear "Nippon" just as often. Yahari becoming Yappari, and Yohodo becoming Yoppodo are two other examples. The general ground rule is that the Ps are considered less formal and more slang-y. If you're writing a letter or speech, you should use the original H versions. If you were talking to friends or writing dialogue, Ps are fine. I suspect that you've never heard Japanese people say it that way, because you weren't listening for it.
Now that you know both versions are out there, and that the mean the same thing, I'm sure you'll notice "yaHari" more often. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the question!
